Summer Updates

The intense heat of the summer season proved no match for UP-SFC as the group continued to meet regularly, praising God and encouraging one another. To start off, a new batch of chapter officers were introduced – Lorraine, Roma, Bimay, Bern, and Joyce. Yet another female is set to support the group – Jin from the Korean 19th batch, who will be serving as the chapter’s aldol.

The group chose to conduct its agape meetings picnic-style at the sunken garden. Sitting on the grass under the shades of the trees certainly brought the members closer to nature, while the inspiring messages delivered by Pastor Levi Arnan encouraged us to develop a closer relationship with God. This was held every Wednesday afternoons.

On fridays, the group again meets with Pastor Levi for leadership training sessions. These were held at the Greenhills Christian Fellowship at Commonwealth, QC. Lessons on our life’s purpose, sharing the gospel, and dealing with various kinds of personalities were tackled and discussed.

As the summer period ended and a new semester begins, we pray that the Lord will continue to bless us and to mold us as better student-leaders. Plans are already underway to have the organization officially recognized by the Office of Student Affairs in UP Diliman. Once this goal is accomplished, UP-SFC will be able to reach out to more people, winning them over as students for Christ.

Activities

Agape Fellowship meetings – Weekly large-group meetings. Activities include faithful preaching of the Word, fellowship with members, and worship. Everybody is welcome and encouraged to join.

Bible Studies – Members will be divided into discipleship groups which offer a familiar and consistent environment for spiritual encouragement and growth. Meetings will be arranged by the discipleship group leaders and will involve Scripture study, sharing, prayer, and fellowship.

House of Praise (also called Andrew meetings) – A monthly PSFC event filled with praise and worship where members can meet students from other university/college chapters.

Retreats/Conferences – An annual PSFC event offering a break from the bustling world of school and/or work. Connect with the Lord in joyful praise and quiet prayer.

We hold the Westminster Confession of Faith and Larger and Shorter Catechisms as our doctrinal standards.

Our vision:

The establishment of the Reformed Faith and life, so that we may become the salt and light of the earth.

Our mission:

The establishment of the Korean-Philippine Church according to the Reformed Faith and evangelization of campuses nationwide.
The establishment of the world church according to the Reformed Faith and evangelization of the world.

Roots

In 1947, after the proclamation of Korean independence from Japan, young people started to gather to pray in repentance for the idolatry of the Korean church during the Japanese occupation. Thus, SFC (Student for Christ) was born. Years after, SFC became a national movement that aimed o proclaim the gospel of Christ in every South Korean campus.

It was on the 21^st of Janury 1998 when three SFC Korean staffs, Pastor Cho Hyun Jong, Moon Ju Eun and Kim Kyung Su arrived in Manila to establish SFC in the Philippines. The first overseas mission center was established, and soon, SFC started its very first campus ministry in the University of the Philippines – Diliman (UP). Soon enough, other chapters were established in various strategic campus locations: Sta. Mesa, U-belt, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), and Intramuros.
